16’ TPO rolls and induction welding technology reduce seaming, boost productivity and deliver superior wind uplift resistance.

Floor & Decor’s new store in Gilroy, California, faced significant moisture damage on its roof, requiring a complete replacement of 2,500 square feet of plywood deck. Building Enclosure Solutions (BES), Carlisle’s manufacturer’s representative, specified Carlisle SynTec Systems’ 16' Sure-Weld TPO membrane and RhinoBond Induction Welding System for this project. AAA Roofing executed the installation, leveraging the unique benefits of wider rolls and induction technology to improve efficiency and durability.

The open design of the building’s roof — with minimal penetrations and few drains — made it ideal for a large-scale membrane. “We really like Carlisle’s 16' TPO membrane installed with induction technology, especially on wide-open roofs,” said Jonah Cross, BES partner and founder. “It enhances productivity, reduces handling and minimizes seams.”

Efficient installation with advanced technology

After repairing the deck, the crew installed 1.75-inch Carlisle SecurShield Polyiso insulation, mechanically fastened using Carlisle HP-X Fasteners and 3-inch RhinoBond Plates. The insulation was secured with varying fastener densities to meet field, perimeter and corner requirements. Using membrane carts, materials were staged in two phases for smooth deployment.

“This was our first time working with 16' rolls,” said Garcia, AAA Roofing’s project manager. “We loved the time savings and efficiency the RhinoBond system provided, especially on this wide-open roof.”

RhinoBond technology eliminates membrane penetration by using induction welding plates. The process involves positioning the membrane over the plates and activating an induction welder to fuse the membrane in place. This method reduces seaming by approximately 33%, saving time and labor while delivering superior wind uplift resistance.

Tailored solutions for long-lasting performance

The roofing team expertly terminated the membrane at walls, curbs and edges using Carlisle CAV-GRIP III Adhesive/Primer and shop-bent counterflashing. The back of the roof featured TPO Coated Metal, while Carlisle Sure-Weld TPO Crossgrip Walkway Rolls provided a slip-resistant path to HVAC units.

Results and next steps

Completed in just eight weeks, this project highlights how advanced roofing technology can enhance productivity, reduce labor and deliver long-term performance.
