Bitec’s Change in Leadership Takes the Company to a New Level

RCS Welcomes Bitec
June 4, 2021 at 2:00 p.m.

By Cass Jacoby, RCS Reporter.

Exciting changes are happening within Bitec’s company. Heidi talks with David Allen and Joel Shealey about new leadership and Bitec 2.0.

In a recent Roofing Road Trips Podcast, David Allen and Joel Shealey talk with RoofersCoffeeShop®’s Heidi J. Ellsworth about the change in leadership and future of Bitec. “I was trained in Europe over several trips over there, both with APP and SBS modified bitumen membranes on how to make and develop them,” says David Allen, the new president of Bitec.

David was Bitec’s first employee 34 years ago and he worked with Bitec’s former president, Bruce Shealey, for around eight years prior to the creation of Bitec. “We were so proud of this particular technology, to continue the tradition, the technology, and bring the European expertise over and maintain it here,” says David. “Joel came up with a nice phrase. ‘When quality matters,’ and how Bitec is your quality source. It always has been.”

Joel joined Bitec in November 2019 just before the pandemic, coming from the asphalt refining world. “As time evolved and I continued to grow myself in roles in different organizations, it allowed me to come to Bitec, get a chance to work with my dad as he winds down to retirement and help Bitec go to the next level and be Bitec 2.0,” says Joel.

Joel now works as Bitec’s new vice president of operations and is focusing on strengthening their sales force and seeking new markets. “It's been a real pleasure getting to work with David and my dad and the others here,” says Joel. “They've got such a wealth of knowledge that just is immeasurable and unreplaceable as well.”

“I'm just delighted to have Joel here. He's bringing a new life to the company, creating the version 2.0, if you will, bringing in the newer technology and the digital age,” says David. “Joel has brought a lot of youth to the organization, a lot of energy, a lot of wisdom.”

“We're seeing a lot of really good things coming for Bitec and a lot of really good things already happening for Bitec or that are in the pipeline,” Joel reports. “As far as the year, we are on an upward trajectory” David agrees, “both technologically and in sales and marketing more so than we were 24 months ago. I'm sure without a doubt, he will fulfill that and continue the existing legacy and possibly improve on it. We're excited. We're excited about that.”

Listen to the Podcast for more insight on what’s happening within the company and the leadership change.
