Benchmark LIVE at IRE 2024!

Benchmark Live at IRE 2024
March 20, 2024 at 6:00 p.m.

By Jonny Suchor.

A longtime roofing expert’s reflective journey and visionary outlook for the industry.

During the third day of the International Roofing Expo 2024, Megan Ellsworth of RoofersCoffeeShop® spoke with Ron Harman from Benchmark.

Reflecting on the event, Ron expressed his enthusiasm, acknowledging the overwhelming but positive nature of the experience. Despite Benchmark not having a traditional booth, Ron highlighted the active participation of his team and shared his conviction about the expo's success.

“I'm going to say it's the best show ever,” Ron states, “It's like drinking from a fire hose.”

A particular focus of the conversation was integrating technology in the roofing industry, with Ron commenting on the significance of the AI keynote. "If that doesn't make everybody think about the idea of structured data and what you do with it, then I think we all need to listen," he said. He expressed confidence in human intellect over machines but acknowledged the critical role of data organization and utilization, emphasizing the importance of adapting to technological advancements.

Ron also praised the Roofing Alliance Student Competition at the expo, appreciating its energy and inspiration. For Ron, this event highlights the importance of investing in the youth and encouraging their entrance into the industry. He shared an inspiring encounter with the team from Auburn University, highlighting their eagerness to learn. “I was very fortunate last night before the awards banquet to stand in line with the team from Auburn,” Ron says. “They were just full of questions, they were sponges, they were trying to learn.”

He also reflected on the importance of participation with industry associations for networking and professional growth opportunities. As a long-standing National Roofing Contractors Association (NRCA) member, he’s interested in how he can be involved more and he advocated for greater participation within the industry, particularly urging roofing contractors to engage with and make stronger connections within the roofing community.

Ron's conversation was not just a reflection but a call to action for those in the roofing industry. He encouraged everyone, especially roofing contractors facing the field's day-to-day challenges, to lean into the available resources, seek collaboration and recognize the strength of unity.
