Beacon (Nasdaq: BECN) is now accepting nominations for its second annual Beacon of Hope contest, a nationwide program awarding deserving veteran homeowners with new roofs. In giving back to its communities, Beacon opens this opportunity to all military veterans, provided they have received an honorable or general discharge. The public can nominate a veteran now through September 24. Beacon is teaming up with veteran-friendly roofing companies to deliver and install all necessary roof repairs/replacement for three veteran homes. In addition, seven runners-up will receive $2,500 to help complete necessary repairs.
“Veterans who have served our country often face adversity in the years following their service,” said Eric Swank, Beacon’s Chief Operating Officer. “We created the Beacon of Hope contest to give back to our veterans across the country who have an essential need: a safe place to live. This contest is intended to inspire communities to come together and provide the hope and recognition our veterans deserve.”
From August 17 through September 24, the public can nominate a U.S. veteran facing adversity on the Beacon of Hope website or submit an e-mail to beaconofhope@becn.com. Nominations must include a photo and short bio of the veteran that includes their military branch, years of service and why the nominee is deserving of a new roof.
Ten finalists will be announced in early October, and the public will have an opportunity to vote for their favorite finalists. Beacon will announce the winners and runners-up on Veterans Day.
Last year, people from across the country came together to cast thousands of votes for the ten finalist whose roofs were in dire need of repair or replacement. Upon determining the winners, Beacon took great pride in joining with community and roofing industry partners to witness the transformation of veterans’ lives as they regained confidence in the safety of their homes.
