Amplify the industry’s message as one voice on Capitol Hill

Amplify the industry’s message as one voice on Capitol Hill
March 26, 2025 at 9:00 a.m.

By Dani Sheehan.

NRCA successfully communicates the views of the roofing industry to policymakers in Washington D.C. — enter the conversation and advocate for the industry’s best interests.

Like many industries, roofing faces challenges that require legislative support. Advocacy plays a critical role in ensuring that the voices of roofing professionals are heard, and Roofing Day in D.C. is the industry’s most significant opportunity to make an impact.

What is Roofing Day in D.C.?

Roofing Day in D.C. is an annual event that brings together contractors, manufacturers, suppliers and other industry professionals to meet with members of Congress and their staff. Organized by the National Roofing Contractors Association (NRCA), Roofing Day has the power to influence policies that directly affect our businesses and workers. We had five crew members represent The Coffee Shops™ at last year’s advocacy event and seeing so many people from the roofing industry come together for the same purpose – no matter where they vote or where they register – is incredibly impactful. NRCA gives you all the tools you need not only to succeed but to enter conversations with your lawmakers as the industry’s collective voice around common goals.

Key issues for 2025

This year, the roofing industry continues to focus on two critical areas: workforce development and pro-growth tax reform.

1 – Addressing workforce shortages

The roofing industry supports:

  • A $70 million increase in funding for Perkins Career and Technical Education (CTE) state grants to close the workforce skills gap.
  • The Stronger Workforce for America Act, which aims to improve workforce training programs.
  • The Essential Workers for Economic Advancement Act, which would establish a visa system to meet labor demands.
  • A pathway for qualified individuals under Temporary Protected Status or DACA to obtain lawful permanent residency.

2 – Pro-growth tax reform

The industry urges Congress to:

  • Pass the Main Street Tax Certainty Act to ensure small businesses retain key tax deductions.
  • Approve the American Innovation and R&D Competitiveness Act to allow businesses to immediately deduct research and development expenses.
  • Maintain energy-efficient tax incentives, such as the 179D deduction and 45L credit, to support sustainable building practices.

Why ROOFPAC matters

ROOFPAC is the only political action committee dedicated to supporting the roofing industry’s interests in Washington D.C. As NRCA engages with lawmakers and federal agency officials, ROOFPAC amplifies our message as an industry, ensuring that our priorities are heard at the highest levels of government.

The funds raised through ROOFPAC have created a more favorable business environment by ensuring roofing professionals have a voice in shaping legislation and regulatory policies. Last year alone, Roofing Day in D.C. 2024 brought nearly 250 registered attendees from 39 states and Washington D.C. together as one voice on Capitol Hill. It is because of ROOFPAC that we are able to establish and maintain relationships with members of Congress and that we have seen so many accomplishments around legislative and regulatory issues.

Get involved

Roofing Day in D.C. is your chance to be part of the movement driving positive change. Advocacy is not just for associations or executives – every contractor, employee and business owner plays a role in shaping the future.

Join us in Washington D.C. on April 8-9, 2025, and make your voice heard!
