What started off as a leak repair turned into a full roof replacement for A Better Chance of New Canaan, Connecticut. For 46 years, the organization has provided for the New Canaan community, specifically the children. The charity operates solely on donations, but gives so much to their students, including a place to live for some of them.
A Better Chance Inc. is a national program that provides minority children with access to educational opportunities that would otherwise be unavailable to them in their community. With an excellent, nurturing environment to learn in, and the ability to participate in the arts, community service, athletics, and extracurricular activities, students are set up for success in their futures. A Better Chance of New Canaan selects a few students to attend New Canaan High School and live in their ABC House.
Jonathan Prizio, owner of Prizio Roofing and Siding Co., Inc., has ties to both the ABC House and the New Canaan High School. Having grown up in New Canaan, he does what he can to give back to the community. “Jonathan is a NCHS graduate (class of 2000), and was friends with some of the guys in the program back then, and also good friends with a host family,” Susan Donelly, President of the ABC House of New Canaan, shared in her interview with Patch.
Prizio Roofing, a local company, donated the roof replacement for the ABC House. Susan explained, “Jonathan came to fix a leak in the roof of our 100-plus year old home. He noticed that our entire roof was in need of replacement, and offered to donate a new roof to our home!”
The roof replacement was a community effort. Two other New Canaan High School alums, Lorenzo Colella and Mike Maloney, joined efforts with Prizio Roofing and Siding to give back to the deserving organization. Lorenzo, owner of Joe’s Pizza donated pizzas to the ABC House students, while Mike, MDM Sanitation owner, provided a dumpster and sanitation services for the duration of the roofing project.
Charitable giving is a priority to Prizio Roofing. A couple years ago the company donated another roof and gutters to a family in need. The company also supports other local organizations including Inspirica, which provides housing and support services to help break the cycle of homelessness, the Young Women’s League of New Canaan, which organizes fundraisers and provides community service, and the Fairfield County Food Bank. And now, the ABC House. Jonathan shared in his interview with Patch, “Donating a roof to the ABC House is a great way to support the local community and pay it forward to the wonderful town of New Canaan that we call home.”
With a desire to give back to the community that has supported them and allowed them to be successful for over 50 years, Prizio Roofing does what they can to give back. Jonathan stated, “We couldn’t be prouder to support the ABC House. This organization has had such a positive impact on the New Canaan community.” And now the students in the ABC House will have a warm and dry place to live and learn thanks to the generosity of Jonathan and Prizio Roofing.
