50-Year warranty on snow retention products from Rocky Mountain Snow Guards leads industry

50-Year warranty on snow retention products from Rocky Mountain Snow Guards leads industry
June 12, 2024 at 4:00 p.m.

With a no-callback situation and a 50-year warranty, snow retention is easier for both the property owner and roofing contractor.

Imagine the masses of snow and ice that metal snow guards, fences and bars repeatedly hold back year after year on homes and commercial projects. Now, consider a no-callback situation and a 50-year warranty making life easier for both the property owner and roofing contractor. That’s the reality of selecting snow retention systems from Rocky Mountain Snow Guards.

“Every product we sell is warranted for 50 years against defects in material and workmanship in normal winter weather conditions,” says Brian Cross, sales and marketing manager with Rocky Mountain Snow Guards out of Colorado. “This includes rust or other degradation of the metal itself which could result in structural product failure. Both the extensiveness and time length of the warranty is uncommon in our industry.”

Free plans, instructions, freight

Cross relates that, as with any product, the snow retention system items must be installed per manufacturer instructions to be protected by the warranty.

“Our mission is to provide a ‘permanent solution’ for snow release on roofs,” says Cross. “This means we’re providing a product we trust will not fail. It also means we encourage roofing contractors to take advantage of the free snow retention layout services offered by Rocky Mountain Snow Guards.”

The Quote Department at Rocky Mountain Snow Guards routinely creates about 30 free project quotes a day. Architects, contractors and homeowners send in blueprints or reports from EagleView™, RoofScope®, and Hover®. The customized snow retention plans, product lists and installation instructions are created for free for each project. Products are then shipped free to each jobsite within the 48 contiguous United States.

“When you talk to the people at Rocky Mountain Snow Guards, you realize that what they actually do is engineer a snow retention system that is specifically designed for your project,” says Joe Westra, co-owner of Summit Point Roofing Company out of Grand Rapids, Michigan. “They take into account things such as the snow load for your region, pitch, roofing material, and a variety of other factors when putting together an architectural plan.

Then they send you detailed quantities, installation instructions and diagrams. Once you have all of that, installing the snow retention system is as simple as following their instructions.”

Rocky Mountain Snow Guards, Inc. manufactures snow guards and fence-style snow retention systems designed to protect people and property. The company provides free shipping of products to the 48 contiguous United States and offers free layouts and quotes for product placement. Rocky Mountain Snow Guards warranty:

Rocky Mountain Snow Guards, Inc. (RMSG) manufactures and distributes only the highest grade of snow retention devices. Our products are designed to withstand the harshest elements and perform for the lifetime of the roof without damage or structural deterioration. RMSG warrants our metal snow retention products for 50 years from date of purchase against defects in material and workmanship, including rust or other degradation of the metal itself which results in structural product failure.

This warranty is not extended to the installation of the product (including labor), or other materials used in the installation process. Coatings applied to snow guards are not covered against deterioration although RMSG uses only the highest grade of exterior coatings on its products.

When installed in accordance with our installation instructions and job specific snow retention plan, RMSG products are warranted against damage from snow and ice movement on the roof. RMSG products are not warranted against damage from rooftop traffic, roof maintenance, or other acts of God, including, but not limited to wind and hail.

Under warranty, RMSG will replace RMSG products determined to be defective or damaged by rooftop snow and ice when installed in accordance with RMSG installation instructions and a job specific layout diagram. Labor to remove and replace damaged snow guards is not covered. Labor and materials to repair or replace roofing or other damaged building components is specifically excluded from this warranty.

Rocky Mountain Snow Guards, Inc. will not be responsible for any damages (life or property) greater than the original purchase price of the RMSG products used on the project. Snow guard layouts provided by RMSG are intended to limit the probability of catastrophic releases of snow and ice from the roof surface above the lowest point of snow retention.

Ice and snow that accumulates on the roof below the snow retention layout is not part of the RMSG snow retention system and is not intended to be held in place by the RMSG snow retention layout. In addition, certain conditions may exist where snow slides or tumbles past RMSG devices and falls off the roof even when devices are installed in accordance with a job specific snow retention plan. These conditions may include slushy-wet snows, snow accumulation in excess of design and load criteria and snow slides off of steeper slopes where snow slides over the top, or under the bottom rail of the snow retention devises. No snow retention product or plan is warranted by RMSG to keep all snow and ice on the roof. On steeper roofs, snow and ice will slide or tumble off of the roof in small to medium size blocks. In addition, RMSG cannot design an effective snow retention system on lower roof areas where upper roof areas shed snow onto the lower roof area.

About Rocky Mountain Snow Guards Inc.

RMSG is one of just a small handful of snow retention manufacturers in the U.S. that design and manufacture custom snow retention solutions for every type of roof. With a sole focus on rooftop snow retention, since 2010, RMSG has designed and sold thousands of snow retention systems. Our knowledge of rooftop snow retention continues to grow and that is reflected in the continuous evolution of our extensive product offering.
