Marketing is an important tool for every business. While some marketing efforts can be expensive and complicated, they don’t have to be! Creating great content for your business doesn’t require being a professional writer or graphic artist. We’re sharing five marketing ideas that are easy to implement and you can start using today!
1 - Use what you have!
Chances are you have a good marketing “nugget” already created. Whether a website, brochure, bio page, or even a Facebook profile, most businesses have some marketing content already developed. You can optimize the work you’ve already done by using that to create “mini content” that works perfectly on social media. Simply use tidbits of information you already have and add a little “side dish” to go with it. For example, if you have a great resume, share some of your experience and pair it with a photo of a recent job. Or, use current news, statistics, audience-specific points of interest, or great stories to help support testimonials you’ve already gathered. Get creative, chances are you’ve got more marketing than you think, all ready to go!
2 - Create walking “billboards”
We’ve talked at length about the power of word-of-mouth marketing and using your customers as business ambassadors. One easy and affordable way to help do that is to provide them “swag” with your business name on it. To get the most bang for your buck, think about quality items customers will actually use or wear. If you wouldn’t wear it, neither will they. Some out-of-the-box ideas might include sun visors for their car. It’s like a literal sign for your business posted for all to see. Or, yard signs posted in customers' yards while you’re on the job. These are an effective way to get the attention of your target audience (ask permission first, of course). If you opt for shirts or hats, consider style and quality. Again, would you wear it?
3 - Film a video
Videos are powerful free marketing. Videos can be one of the most effective ways to establish yourself as an expert. They provide an opportunity to give your potential customers free, helpful tips and tricks that help them trust you as the pro. Post videos on your website or social media outlets or send them in an email and enjoy the benefits, at no cost!
4 - Ask to guest post
Speaking of expertise, don’t be shy about sharing yours! Another great way to promote your business for free is to offer to guest post on someone else’s site or page. Be sure to provide expert content that is helpful. Think of good information to share– helpful tips, tricks and training are all good places to start.
5 - Develop your top differentiator
What separates you from your competition? Can you pick out the ‘one thing’ that the customer cares about and reflects a core attribute you really deliver on? You have to do so many things ‘right’ to be successful it may be hard to choose. But can you narrow it down? We met a contractor whose leading message was, “We call you back.” Simple? Yes. But very effective.
