5 continuing education programs to consider

Metal-Era 5 continuing education programs to consider
July 5, 2024 at 9:00 a.m.

By Emma Peterson.

From loss mitigation principles of ventilation, expand your industry knowledge with one of these in-depth courses!

Continuing education is key for architects, consultants and contractors looking to keep up with the innovations in the industry. Not only do these programs expand individual’s knowledge, they also are often requirements for different associations. Metal-Era is proud to be able to provide programs registered with AIA CES. This means that learners that complete the entire learning program gain a continuing education credit and certification when requested. Check out some of the options available!

1 - Loss mitigation through building design

AIA Course Number: MET-108 | AIA Provider Number: J481

With the rise in natural disaster events, there have been shifts in standards such as ES1 and GT-1 to mitigate insurance and loss of life risks. This course highlights additional steps that can be taken, such as the edge metal importance in building securement. By attending this program you can understand industry risk trends, the perspective of the insurer and see real-life examples.

2 - Perimeter edge metal wind design seminar: Understanding ANSI/SPRI/FM 4435/ES-1

AIA Course Number: MET-104 | AIA Provider Number: J481

Keeping roof edges compliant to ANSI/SPRI/FM 4435/ES-1 and other testing standards is crucial because of the role the edge plays in defending against damaging wind and weather. This program will teach the importance of edge metal, the impact wind can have, the basics of ANSI/SPRI/FM 4435/ES-1 and practice calculating wind design pressure to adhere to code requirements.

3 - Gutters and ANSI/SPRI GT-1

AIA Course Number: MET-107 | AIA Provider Number: J481

In 2021 ANSI/SPRI GT-1 was added to the International Building Code to offer a standard approach to designing and testing gutters. The program will help attendees understand the importance of these standards and how they are incorporated into the International Building Code. Further, it will take a deep dive into why GT-1 is important to specifiers and what the test methods included in GT-1 are.

4 - Principles of commercial roof ventilation

AIA Course Number: VTFF0302 | AIA Provider Number: J481

This program not only provides an overview of roof ventilation systems, but also compares the distinctly different needs of residential and commercial roofs. Attendees will also get key information about the role of a Net Free Area (NFA).

5 - Manufacturing plant tour: Roof edge termination and ANSI/SPRI

AIA Course Number: MET-105 | AIA Provider Number: J481

This is an hour-long, expansive tour of the Metal-Era manufacturing plant. Metal-Era is the largest and most accomplished edge metal systems manufacturer in North America and this tour will show attendees live product installation demos so they can understand everything from the design to the installation of edge systems. There are eight planned zones for the tour to highlight:

  1. Robotic cells
  2. ANSI/SPRI/ES-1 testing station
  3. Fabricated part quality control testing station
  4. Welding, turret and shearing departments
  5. Material inventory warehouse
  6. Custom fabrication department
  7. Packaging and shipping departments
  8. Customer service and engineering departments
