 Anybody remember a pic or two I posted of a failed copper roof? This one.
 What a bear to remove! No slip paper. Every panel had to be pried up inch by painful inch!
Hopefully, we can knock it out tomorrow. I got some guys from RCS together to do the job with me. Only 7 sq, but feels like 40sq. :woohoo:
No rot that can be seen through the goo, so we're adding another layer to keep it dry tonight.
What, they didn't want to pay for flatlock twice??
Here's a close-up of the copper burn. Roof about 7 years old.
Here are two pictures of the chemical inaction I mentioned in the 'roofers' head. They give a close look at how well solder draws deep into the seam when edge-soldering.
Btw, those boys bugged me no end about how old I am. I think they all ran out of steam two hours before I did. THey don't make 20-30 year olds like they used too.
Nice stuff Egg.
Mike, I got it and responded. Should be good to go.
Great shot Eric.
I've got me an estwing in my tool bag. It don't get used for much other than chopping out cores,... but maybe it's kinda like a Holiday Inn, it just makes me feel like I know what I'm doing. ;)
And here's one taken the same day. Shadow is my friend. You can almost make out a tiny bit of youth still clinging tenaciously to the small figure silhouetted against the backdrop of a very very large universe.
This was yesterday, Mike, with the arrow showing one of two Estwings imminently useful for tile work. Also showing one gnarly old dude back-soldering a top saddle for a retrofit skylight. And also showing one Mr. Benelli who will carry it on when I'm put out to pasture. http://www.rooferscoffeeshop.com/rcs/users/egg/Mr.-Estwing.jpg
Frank, check your email please
Mike H Said: Love your commentary egg.Frank, is this the result of some kind of chemical reaction, galvanic reaction, etc?
Well, in this picture, the copper is being eaten by the EcoStar fake slate.
The rest of the issues are a result of the roof never getting soldered, so I guess that was a chemical reaction in the brain of the person who did the fake soldering job. Running a bead of solder along the edge of a seam does as much good as just caulking the seams.
Love your commentary egg.

You the man...notice you have an Estwing prybar there. Handiest pry bar I ever use and I think I carry at least one of every kind imaginable. I have no less than three Estwings with me at all times. Have to mill the new ones because they aren't made as well as they used to be. Burn your knees tearing up hot copper no doubt. 98 degrees here on Friday. Couldn't leave anything in the sun and expect to pick it up after fifteen minutes. Goo and heat...isn't that the nature of the beast...what were we thinking....
