Hi all What type of ridge do you use? My supplier sells me the kind that goes on first. Pans slide in, (no z is screwed on). Has anyone had any problems with it? It is much quicker and easier. Pros cons? >>>

Look more closely. The ridge cap is wide open and is vented, per se.

The panels themselves are boxed on the end. That means the flat ends of the panels have been foled up, withoput cutting, like a paper airplane gets folded. Some put a piece of channel flashing under the panels to catch wind blown water, and hope it never finds a way through the underlay. (It will get onto the felt, just have to hope it doesn't get under that.) I close them off and, and can even add baffles in very windy or snow drift areas. Underlay isn't necessary to keep things dry.>>>

I love your "Jackass - Jackleg Photo Gallery", Home owners do the damest things sometimes. It doesn't seem to matter where your from.

You're looking up at the bottoms of the top ends of the panels. They're boxed off. No underlay needed. The 'white' area between the panels in the bottom of the ridge cap.

I prefer to just hem my own in their entirety though; http://www.albertsroofing.com/Tin%20Roofing%20photo_gallery.htm>>>

tinner666 Said: Boxed, then capped. Would never install a so-called flashing first.
What is that? Looks like a water collector. Why wouldn't you just put ridge down?>>>

I'm sorry, but what manufacturer would give a watertight warranty on that or is it just a faster way....I was taught to do it like that, plus they had us put a foam backer rod shoved up under the ridge which eventually falls out.Lame. what about wind driven rain??

Hop.. I'm here to learn not argue or anything like that... Is there a manuf. detail for that?

I prefer to install Z-closure after the panels are installed however, if the pitch of the roof is 7:12 or greater, we will install C-Channel, then box and slide the panels into the C.>>>

Sounds like the sliding panel system to me.......... Is there any manufacturers that recommend and warranty that install? I do know that it is quicker, but at what cost?? I had a rep. come and demo a panel machine for me and in our conversation he had told me that he did these two standing seam roofs for nation wide food chain here. He didn't get the sale because I had to repair both of those roofs! Sliding panels everywhere! Thats why I don't like the "one year workmanship warranty" Needs to be min. 5yr. I'm not afraid of 10yr. workmanship warranty. I believe all Quality manufacturers require boxing and Zees.
