What procedures and products work best to reactivate old (10 yrs +)PVC membranes to apply patches?
anyone use xylene its strong stuff i have used it on tpo, pvc, even epdm tho wouldnt recommend it for epdm.
Even though Siplast does not market their Parapro Flashing Resin to be used with single plies I think it has bonding capabilities. I've used Parapro for tricky flashing details on TPO, but not with PVC. As long as the surface is scarified I think you can achieve a good bond. http://www.rooferscoffeeshop.com/rcs/users/Colpaw/
I like O/S method... ;) How do you warranty a patch?
try lucas 6000 and mesh - we have had good success with over last 1 1/2 years on a couple acre PCV roof that is different ages ....
just clean PVC with Naptha and rags and more Naptha and rags and then coat, mesh and recoat ... the 6000 is very contractor friendly .....
tried eternabond - both primed and unprimed and the glue failed - had to pull up - then tried Lucas 6000 - Used Lucas 6000 ever since with zero issues - and it seems to hold up well under nominal ponding as well ....
Lucas Coatings is a Chicago based company .....
Old Genflex and john mansville are impossible to weld too.
Depending on the product, Alba's option may be the only option, but with the better PVC's you should still be able to weld once you've used an aged membrane cleaner and abrasive pads.
Old Durolast and old Cooley membranes have proved very difficult for us to weld to, but Sarnafil, Fibertite and few thicker products are OK. Fibertite usually just needs a few swipes with a rag and acetone, the others you need to get down to virgin PVC. Takes a little elbow grease, but a much better patch in the long run.
Clean it with aceton and patch with eternabond.
