Hi there folks,

I am interested in figuring out what the industry average is for being called back to a job once it is finished. For workmanship issues, either for leaks or aesthetics. Any info would be greatly appreciated

Kevin,

What a great question! The answers you might get will vary widely on type of work being done (new construction, re roof) and whether you have employees or subs.

So using someone else's KPI might not work for you.

Either way, to fix it you will need to use the  same process to fix it.

first identify where you are now. If you aren't sure, start with an educated guess as to what your call back rate is. Don't be afraid to include your team in this by asking them what they think it might be.

Next agree to what acceptable is. This might be easy to achieve from where you are. Most likely there will be a considerable gap. If this is the case, break it down into weekly goals for improvement that will lead to the level you want.

Lastly, measure the results and review with your team weekly. Celebrate when you meet or exceed goals and identify opportunities for improvement when you don't and adjust.

Good luck in plugging a common profit leak in your business!

Aaron
