Paying more for less!

Has everyone been made aware of almost all of the shingle manufactures shorting their bundles shingles? We are a medium size company and deal almost exclusively with Certainteed roofing products, and recently we were informed that Certainteed was putting 20 shingles per bundle instead of 22 shingles per bundle or 3.02 Sq. Ft. After a meeting with our Regional sales rep I found that it is exactly 2 shingles per square that they are intentionally shorting their bundles. Their stance was that "everyone" else was doing it so they needed to do it to stay competitive. In the 5,000 square we purchased in 08' 1/3 of those were short which totals 1650 square that were actually short 2 shingles in every bundle. For every 11 Square that are short you lose 1 square of shingles, so that means that paid for 150 square of shingles we never received. That adds up to be a whole lota money in a years time, especially if you don't know that they are doing it and to the extent that they are doing it. More for the material, more for labor and overhead, less for our wallets when the day is done. I think that if a manufacturer makes a product that is measured and sold by a standard of measurement they should package and sell it by those same standards. In the event that there is a change to how they package their product they should notify their customers of the change, otherwise it appears as though they are intentionally misleading and purposely stealing from their contractors. Sorry this is so long winded I am pretty @%*#!ng MAD about the whole thing. Money is money and stealing is stealing, what does everyone else think about this?>>>

Same thig happened with tile years ago.....I think they used to give us 94 or 96 tiles per sq, Then one day they all decided to make it 88/sq....So then we had to add an additional 2% when ordering to cover for the shortage.

Have they ever done that with rolled goods? Anybody comment?>>>

Advantage 324 are you talking about 30 yr. architectural shingles and are you talking about USA shingle dimensions or metric shingle dimensions?>>>

If you were not aware of this and were selling the product under the assumption that it actually covered what said it did then they pull this crap it can screw your bottom line especially if you are trying to keep your prices in check to begin with. @ $75/sq +6%sales tax, plus a minimum of $40 in labor and another $14 in insurance costs that totals $133.50/sq for 150 Sq. That is the equivalent of $20025.00, anyone here got an extra 20K laying around?? The manufacturer never puts 24 shingles in a bundle! The manufacturers Director of marketing said they roll of the line 22,22,20,22,22,20. It is exact and it is our burden as the contractor to get our money out of the homeowner.>>>

Well specs on both Architectural and 3- tabs call for approximately 78-79 pcs. per sq..

Based on a 12" x 36" shingle dimension.>>>

Doesn't it take 26 shingles ( Appoximately ) per bundle to roof a square ? or roughly 78-79 pcs per sq. ?>>>
