Good to see everyone.
email forthcoming momentarily.
Hey Grumpy shoot me a email I have a couple of questions to ask you
dsaibic9@gmail.com
I am so happy to hear you are doing well Darrell and even though you are not in the thick of things anymore we still have more to learn from you!
Grumpy,
I don't know about everywhere, but ya know our weather is just a day later than yours. Everything about the same cept we might get a little more Gulf effect.
5 solid months of winter and 3 months of rain.... yeah, it's busy in Ohio right now.
Darryl, Ya ol' dog. When Tom Hay jumped in a little while ago, I wondered if you were still kickin'. Sounds awesome that you've weaned yourself off the pills. Everything probably works better.
Great to see you around Darryl! I still tell the new guys your wheelbarrow story.
Yes Andy good problem to have. That's why we have winter! I have already quoted out in 2 months more than I did all of the last two years. Once these jobs start landing I think we are going to have a major problem finding skilled labor. The company I am with is already at it's max capacity.
Been missing Darryl and Grumpy's wisdom and soothsaying . . .
Too busy this year . . . great crew, great customers . .. not enough hours in the day ...
Good to see both Thomas and Darryl back in here. :)
B) Hi guys well I'm back for some gossip and such I have been retired since 2005 with an occasional estimating jobs, the last one I did was back in 2008 good old Hurricane Ike down Texas way, I'm still sitting in the VA supplied power wheelchair lol however I quit taking all of the VA supplied drugs 180 mg of Morphine was just about all that I could handle when they said we want to increase your dosage I said later Dr. I detoxed my self after 10yrs of popping those pills it took me almost 1 month to get straight Now I do't even take an aspirin except of the 325 gram tablet to keep my heart going lol Physical therapy 2 times a week , my new Dr said to me your healthier that some of the forty olds I see and this year I will turn 75 lol I exercise every day and stretch them muscles and other body parts, I sure miss Roofing after 30 years to be shut down over a ba ck problem lol My youngest daughter is a licensed Insurance adjuster handling only catastrophes and she want me to do some traveling with her I do the Xactimate surveys for her I used to do them for a lot of the storm chasers however the pay was always late or not at all lol My son Ryan still on the deck however he smarten up and works as a project manager covering commercial work on the South East Coast, my grandson stopped producing records and is now on the roof lol I read an article posted by Vickie from 2005 and my old bud Northstar brought tears to my eyes Well I got to get back to watching TV otherwise I'll be typing forever I shall Return lol
Good to see you, man. You sound good. Yes, it's busy here, too.
Alot has changed since my last visit here. Back then I knew it all. I went in debt, got out of debt, and realized I am not as smart as I think I am. I closed my roofing company last year primarily to pursue my passion for firearms. But I knew then, never say never and had the thought in the back of my mind that somehow roofing was going to pull me back in, and it did alot quicker than I thought it would.
I was making real good money for 6 months teaching the concealed carry, but the bubble burst rather quickly and the competition literally were cutting my student fees in half. I couldn't get my federal firearm license out of my house (due to local zoning) and couldn't afford to rent any commercial space at a minimum of $1k per month so wasn't able to take the next step in the gun retail and repair business. Not to mention that Cook County is not very firearm friendly at all.
So now I am working for one of the city's larger roofing contractors. I am primarily focused on commercial/industrial roofing. I am supposed to be part time, but some how I still work 50 hour weeks. To be honest their primary focus is residential which I don't really want to mess with for various reasons, I thought they did a little more commercial than they actually do. I believe I have a future here if I want it. I like the people and the work environment but am sort of an anomaly within the company, and not quite sure how I fit in.
It is a very very busy year here from everything I hear everyone saying. The winter was incredibly harsh, I am told, I really didn't think it was all that bad but this is the first winter in nearly 2 decades that I didn't pay any attention to the weather. Also we have had at least one or two rain days pretty much every week since I got back into roofing in May. The pent up demand has been tremendous due to the recession, as I am sure everyone can agree. I met with a roofing consultant today that does work nationwide and says pretty much roofing business is booming everywhere. Would you all agree?
Hey, Grumpy .. . been missing your face here . . .
Greetings from downstate. Once I figured out that roofing can mix w/ my previous hobby, computers/networking, I must have read hundreds of your posts.
Hello Grumpy, Glad you stopped in.
