How do colors, gauge and profiles affect oil canning?
According to AEP Span:
All of these attributes can affect the appearance of oil canning. For example, the lighter the panel color, the less apparent it will be. In addition, heavier gauges help stiffen the profile, which can minimize oil canning. For example, a 22 ga panel is heavier and more robust than a thinner 26 ga panel. Profile plays a part in oil canning as well. Panel ribbing and striations also help in mitigating or eliminating some oil canning. Oil canning is more prevalent in dark, wide flat profiles.
