I just got a notice that my insurance is doubling from $750 a month to $1500.00 a month with double the copays and covering half of what they do now. I don't have a clue what I'm going to do. Get some shoe polish and learn Spanish I guess.

I do not have any health insurance at present. Than k God that I still enjoy good health and I must get in even better shape this roofing season. But I am going to think about the different alternatives as to what type of health insurance that I can get and possibly afford. :)

Copperman, If you belong to the local chamber of commerce or the builders association they can get you much better rates on your health insurance most of the time. That is what we do here.

minnesotaroofin Said: That is fd up -- If that starts happening to much them Ins companies will be shooting themselves in the foot because i for one would support government health care if they tried doubling my rates and covering half no matter how strong i oppose it now. I am sure the support would turn quickly very quickly like overnight if all insurance COs did that. They should be lowering rates enticing us into not needing a public health system --
" That may not be a bad thing. people who work for the school system can insure their whole family for like $200 a month.I know a retired successful contractor in his 50's who drives a school bus part time just for the benefits. If he were to private insurance the premium would have been $900 a month.

I get my (Kaiser) insurance through my wife's work. She works at a newspaper that just had another round of buyouts. She could have gotten about $14,000. to quit, but that might not of even covered one year's premiums. After each buyout, the remaining employees usually get promoted and a small raise. But she's right under $24 per hour. Their policy is if your under $24 per hour, you pay 10% of your health care, above $24 you have to pay 25%. So we're hoping for just a tiny raise.

They did not say it was because of my injury which cost about $5000.00 They said there getting rid of self pay people. You have to be in a group or work for somebody that has insurance. I can get insurance for what I'm paying now but I will lose half my coverage, which means I will have a lot more out of pocket expenses. I got till February 1 2010 to find a replacement. :S

Under the new plan the ins companies will be looking at 40 million NEW customers-- with NO government competition. Ain't that a sweet deal. The big sweetner (apparently) for us customers will be "No exclusion for pre-existing conditions". Huh? So you really can get house ins once it has caught fire, as the old adage goes. Bullshit. They are already reporting that other reasons will be found for not giving the treatment, like "not enough cancer specialists" etc. They could always just make it illegal to deny coverage anyway without this piece of crap that is constitutionally illegal in the first instance because it has not been read by any or all of the co-signers.

My wife and I pay close to $900 a month for BC/BS PPO with a $2500 per person annual deductible. I dunno, something's got to give here.

copperman; If it costs and average of say $10,000 a year to be in a hospital or go to the doctor on an annual basis, then we are all going to have to pay at least that much in insurance premiums each year. $10,000 doesn't buy much healthcare anymore.

on the same vein, I am amazed that car insurance is so low. $150 a month on a $25,000 vehicle for full coverage is common, and it only has to be a fender bender to cost about $5,000 to fix it. It happens all the time around here, and where you are at for sure.

The shoe polish should work.
