Just back from a week visiting my daughter and once again I'm puzzled by the valley details I saw. There's a tendancy to treat the valleys like a hip, mudding in hip trim up the valley.

There's probably some wind-resistance advantage to doing it like this and it appears to be a regional (Punta Gorda, Ft Meyers) thing, where just over half of the valleys are done this way.

But up here you would have all sorts of problems with freezing breaking up the mudding and water pooling and getting in the side seams of the tiles at the edge of the valley metal.
