I heard , Certainteed, Owens, G.A.F. , all manufacturers are planning 6% to 8% price increase within the month. Has anyone heard this, or , can anyone confirm this ? I am really getting sick of it. It seems everytime you blink, they sneak another increase on you. First it was the cost of oil, then the cost of asphalt. I am beginning to think it is the cost of their limo drivers health insurance.

Shingles have doubled in price over the past 5 years. I don't think their cost have doubled.

yeah...I have heard the news...I think they all get together and raise their prices.

I have been told that we have the largest shingle manufacturing plant in the world (we have a new GAF/Elk plant), right here in Tuscaloosa AL, and I sometimes drive by there and look at their inventory...we also have a Tamko plant here too.....Right now they are both busting at the seams with inventory..I think they were expecting some hurricanes and it didn't happen. With the economy and things as they are, I don't understand the price increases either.

Vaa Fakaosifolau Said: the only way to drop prices is to cut into your margin .
yep,the first cut was looong slooow and deeep.it was the throat of most of the american workers from single family homes(not 4 families deep splitting the cost of the american way into 4) Contractors around here that I know of through personal relationships and networking that are still chugging alon haven't lowered their price to the consumer.they've cut into the materials through cheaper products or methods then labor.it's cheaper to hire one guy that spaks enough english to communicate wit when you've got A big crew.then they are limiting subs, using skeleton plumbing, electrical, HVAC, roofing and carpenter (which triple feathers the sheetrock and painting)that knows the trade, then havin the fshing bud that carries the proper liscense to sign off. welcome to america, home of cheap labor, poor craftsmaqnship and the fool for A customer society.
