I thought this was interesting. This stack just blows out moist air, but you can see how that eroded the tile and exposed aggregate directly below where it blew. (I replaced 6 tiles here) It also wore a hole in the lead as well. I usually see these things mounted higher above the tile, so I suspect mounting it too low is what caused this. Frequently heating guys mount them before the tile is installed and don't allow for the tile thickness. Or, it is on the front side and maybe the HO insisted it be cut shorter for aesthetics.
You can also see by the caulking how much the rafters have sagged in 17 years.
Not relly mate, but I have no perception of the age to weight ratio so was basing my comment on observation.
Jed, are you criticizing the age of the rope?
CIAK, I've never liked the idea of painting pipes and lead flashings. It might look good for a few years, but they always end up looking like this.
Egg, I usually only see the lead oxide staining where water was pooling, but it looks like a steady mist being blown on the roof does the same thing.
Looks like it's generating a lot of lead oxide while it's at it.
wywood " Or, it is on the front side and maybe the HO insisted it be cut shorter for aesthetics " I don't think you could do anything to make that thing aesthetic B)  B) That thing is just plain ugly IMO
Man you got big ones relyin' on that rope Woody
