It is not a fair fight!! I was very lucky! I had the depth of the cut correct so that the blade was just sticking 1/4" above the wood I was cutting. That is how deep it cut into the bottom of my thumb. It missed the bones and tendons but cut the thumb nail from the bottom. Ouch.
The body is a wondrous thing! It happens without us or the doctors doing anything too. Makes you wonder how necessary they are.

My son sent this picture to me one day of a guy at work. They extracted it at the hospital and he was back working the next day.
I remember an old saying my Dad had, "Whatta you got? Sawdust for brains"
Remembered that after reading about the episode with the cut skull.
Oh God, that makes we want to throw up! It is bad when it happens to you, but to think of a little kid getting hurt...Wow!
10 days after my last post and i am typing a lot better and the wound is about 75 % healed over. The body is a pretty amazing thing!
The pain wasn't too bad. Not fun though. It is about half way healed now. It took a Kerf of skin and meat right out of the pad of the thumb, so there was no sewng it up. It is filling in though. It is very hard to type for some reason though. Maybe I did hit a nerve!
Got my thumb a year or so ago too. Hurt like the dickens! :(
It only takes a second, that is for sure. I am very careful and disciplined in the shop too. A wake up call! It is hard to type with a splint on your thumb.
Glad you you have everything intact.
I cut off part of a finger when I was putting a chock behind a wheel of my dump truck and it rolled just when I was placing it.
Wow glad your okay. The most famed carpenter in this area just cutoff a finger last year after going his whole career with all of his digits. He's about 80 years old or more now.
