Disabled Vietnam Veteran Gets New Roof

May - Caught - RCS - Disabled Vietnam Veteran Gets New Roof
May 27, 2018 at 6:10 p.m.

Dallas, Texas-based D&G Roof Systems donated the roof which would have cost between $8,000 - $10,000.

When a storm came through Robert Wayne Jackson, Sr.’s Tyler, Texas neighborhood last fall, a tree fell on his roof, leaving a hole. He patched the hole himself but knew it was just a temporary repair.

According to the Tyler Morning Telegraph, the disabled U.S. Army veteran reached out to Habitat for Humanity of Smith County and, through some coordination, the nonprofit was able to assist him.

“A lot of these guys, they go and serve the country and they come home and they feel a little bit forgotten from time to time,” Jason Nemitz, owner of D&G Roof Systems told the Tyler paper. “When (Owens Corning) reached out to us, it was an immediate yes.”

“I was honored and happy to do it,” he added. “It just feels like a million bucks … It’s awesome. I sure hope that he recognizes that this was done out of appreciation and sincere gratitude for his service,” said Nemitz. “I hope he enjoys many years of comfort knowing that his home and his family are protected by a new roof.”

His business donated the labor and Owens Corning provided the materials for the new roof. Read the full article from the Tyler Morning Telegraph here.
