WSRCA Stays Busy in October

WSRCA Stays Busy
December 1, 2021 at 3:00 p.m.

By Western States Roofing Contractors Association (WSRCA).

With expos, auctions and seminars, the association has been very busy the last two months!

The Western States Roofing Contractors Association (WSRCA) is all about bringing roofing industry members together. The association aims to empower members through webinars, seminars, expos, industry award shows and much more. With that, here are the latest happenings at WSRCA:

On-demand webinars for members

Did you know that as part of your membership in WSRCA, you have access to on-demand webinars that help you build a better business? Choose from BusinessSafetyLegal and Technical. All have been put together by top industry professionals and are designed to help educate and inform roofing contractors, expand company offerings, maintain OSHA compliance and improve day-to-day operations.

Western Roofing Expo held in Las Vegas

Each year, the Western Roofing Expo brings the roofing community together to help them stay current on trends, see the largest selection of products and services and connect with their peers. The goal is to help industry professionals grow and find new ways to improve the way they do business.

Thousands of people from roofing’s most innovative companies descended on Las Vegas Sunday September 21 as the Western Roofing Expo kicked off. Over the next few days, manufacturers, distributors, suppliers, engineers, consultants and roofing contractors from throughout the West, were all on hand at the The Mirage Hotel & Casino.

According to final registration statistics — 2,104 convention-goers converged for the 2021 show, connecting face-to-face to hear from leading experts, educators and colleagues and learning how to capitalize on the industry’s latest innovations, strategies and best practices. Action-filled events included the annual golf and sporting clays tournaments, welcome event and lively-silent auction and exhibit floor. There was a great overall sense of industry camaraderie this year, and many of the people we talked to were glad to get back to business as usual!

Golf and sporting clays tournaments

The annual Golf Tournament was held bright and early in southern Las Vegas at Bear’s Best Las Vegas. 124 participants came out to play at the club. Across the valley, the annual Sporting Clays Tournament was also held concurrently at the Pro Gun Club in Boulder City. The course was full with 52 participants, who also had a great time on the challenging desert terrain and windy conditions. A very special thank you to our Exclusive Tournament Sponsor: Beacon, our Title Sponsors: Western States Roofing Contractors Association, Western Roofing Magazine, Roofing Contractor Magazine and RoofersCoffeeShop.com — and all of the prize donators and tournament participants who help make the Davis Memorial Foundation’s tournaments a yearly success.

Welcome event and lively silent auction

Later that evening hundreds gathered back at The Mirage Las Vegas, as Davis Memorial Foundation Chairman Chuck Chapman and fellow Trustee Bill Baley emceed the welcome event and lively-silent auction, sponsored by GAF. Fantastic donated items such as hunting trips, vacations, electronic merchandise, jewelry and of course roofing-related products were all on display for attendees to bid on.  The night was a huge success, and this amazing support could not have been achieved without the generous support from members like you!

A special thanks to Davis Memorial Foundation Trustees Heidi Ellsworth, Greg Bloom, Dennis Ryan and Joel Viera for making the auction such a fun event. On behalf of the entire Foundation, its Trustees and Staff – and most importantly the scholarship recipients – thank you for your continued support!

Seminars and exhibit floor

The WSRCA puts on a diverse educational program designed to keep roofing contractors ‘in-the-know’ on vital roofing topics affecting the industry. The seminar portion of the Western Roofing Expo was held prior to the opening of the exhibit floor. All seminars were very well attended this year.

For the opening of the trade show floor on Monday, 2020 WSRCA President Leo Ibarra, along with incoming 2021 President Rob Winkle, Immediate Former President Tom Asbury and WSRCA Executive Director Joel Viera, were on hand to cut the ceremonial ribbon. The exhibit hall floor featured over 160 local, regional and national companies displaying their latest roofing products and services, many available only in the western market. The vast majority of the exhibitors were extremely pleased with the attendee turnout…and as you can see, the exhibit hall was quite busy!

Winding down the convention on Thursday, September 23, hilarious entertainer Ian Bagg made a guest appearance at the Annual Luncheon, sponsored by Malarkey Roofing Products. He showcased his outlandish stand-up comedy routine that had the audience in stitches. He was quite the entertainer, and it made for a fun, relaxed atmosphere heading into the final portion of the Expo.

Board Member of the Year Award and WSRCA Hall of Fame Award

Immediately following the luncheon guest speakers and entertainment, WSRCA presented its annual awards. Board Member of the Year went to Jackson Johns of National Roofing Company, in Albuquerque, New Mexico in recognition of his efforts the last year improving the Association. A huge congratulations to Jackson, and thank you for all that you do for Western States!

A prestigious award that is only given out every few years, WSRCA announced its Hall of Fame Award. In recognition of outstanding service to the roofing industry and Association, Chuck Chapman of Tecta America Arizona in Phoenix, Arizona was recognized as the 2021 inductee. Thank you, Chuck, for your incredible work ethic and dedication to WSRCA and the roofing industry!

Wrangler of the Year

For his outstanding efforts in recruiting potential members to join the WSRCA, Greg Hayne of Hayne Coaching Group won the 2021 ‘Wrangler of the Year’ award.  A custom-made belt buckle commemorated his win. Thank you for your commitment to growing our Association, Greg!

Western Roofing Expo 2022: September 24-26 at the Paris Las Vegas
