Since 1889, May 1 has been designated as a day to honor and support workers. On this International Workers Day, RoofersCoffeeShop® wants to highlight all the hardworking people in the roofing industry. It is because of our employees, team members, family, friends and community that this industry is able to get roofs over so many heads.
Prioritizing our workforce and community was the main theme for this year's National Roofing Contractors Association (NRCA) Roofing Day, where we spoke with our elected representatives about important issues that affect our industry.
It is vital that we continue offering abundant opportunities to bring more people into the roofing industry, from no matter their background. That is why NRCA and the roofing industry are advocating for novel bipartisan immigration solutions, as well as for a path to citizenship for Dreamers. In order to encourage the next generation of roofers to join the industry, and make roofing more accessible to them, our elected leaders heard requests to sustain and increase funding for career technical education. By doing this, it helps ensure that all students have a pathway they can follow after high school to make a living wage and support a family.
Prioritizing and celebrating those who make our industry possible is the best way for us to move forward. Listening to those on the roof, in the plant, driving the truck, or answering the phone to learn what we can do better is how we will continue to grow and improve — that is where our strength and power come from.
So, this May Day be sure to ask: What more can we do for those who make this industry possible? What direction do you want to see this industry move? Can we make this industry one that is even more centered on its workers and employees?
