Paul Furr, CPRC and owner of Sarasota, Florida-based PDF Roofing LLC says the StealthBond® system is the future of metal roofing. He should know, since he has been in the roofing business since 1988. One of the first things we like to ask our contractors when interviewing them is how they got into roofing. When I asked Paul, he laughed and told me it was a long story, but I was able to get the condensed version. It’s one I hear over and over: he didn’t set out to be a roofer, but it sort of happened by accident.
Paul shared that as the youngest of five children, his father told him there wasn’t money to go to college and he should learn a trade. So, he got into the construction industry and after some time, found himself helping with roofs on the weekend. That led him to eventually open PDF Roofing LLC and he never looked back.
He first learned of the StealthBond® System while attending the 2017 Florida Roofing and Sheet Metal Expo where he met Jim Horton, the developer of the StealthBond® System. Jim introduced him to the advanced metal roofing system that uses structural adhesive technology for metal roofing installations.
“I always like to be on the cutting edge of new technology, especially when it comes to metal roofing,” explained Paul. He said the over the years, he has had many builders and homeowners tell him that they like the look of the 5V Crimp roof but really don’t like the exposed fasteners and this offers them an appealing, high-performing alternative.
PDF Roofing’s first installation: The Barn
Paul’s first StealthBond® job was installed on The Barn, a brand-new construction project that will become a wedding chapel and venue. It was important for the finished building and the Striated 5V Crimp panel be aesthetically pleasing and fit with the expectations that soon-to-be married couples expect for their dream weddings. The builder was interested in 5V Crimp but indicated to Paul that he thought the exposed screws would detract from the beauty of the barn. Paul knew that the StealthBond® system would be a perfect fit for this project and the builder was excited to see there was another alternative.
When the installation was set to begin, a StealthBond® representative was onsite for the first day and a half to be sure they understood the installation methods and answer any questions from the crew. “As with any new product, we anticipated that there would be a learning curve,” said Paul. “One of the most important things to learn was how to maneuver around the roof and not get your safety lines stuck in the adhesive. Once we got the hang of that, things went pretty smoothly from that point on.”

The future of metal roofing
Paul says that contractors who want to step forward into the future of metal roofing should look at the StealthBond® System. “When you look at price of a mechanically fastened 5V Crimp and standing seam, StealthBond® is very competitive,” he stated.
When the project was finished, Paul was most impressed at the fact that there was zero oil canning. “There was no oil canning, which is huge for a metal roof. That was impressive; that, to me, was the number one most impressive thing,” he said.
Paul says that builders really love the look of the system as well. In fact, he has one builder about to begin a 20-home neighborhood who plans to use the system on each home.
