By Don Kilcoyne, GAF.
GAF wrote the book on shingle toughness. And now we’ve made the movie, too.
Every day, GAF conducts more than 4,000 quality checks in the making of our Advanced Protection® Shingles (APS). All GAF shingles also pass the industry’s two toughest wind resistance tests: ASTM D3161, Class F (110 mph) and ASTM D7158, Class H (150 mph), under controlled laboratory conditions. The bottom line is, GAF makes a tough asphalt shingle.
GAF Master Elite® and Certified™ Contractors understand the importance of quality. Since their own reputations are on the line with every rainstorm and wind gust, they recommend reliable, durable Advanced Protection® Shingles from GAF.
But what about homeowners? Does a busy professional — perhaps also a full-time mom or dad — have the time to dive into the durability details of their shingles?
We’re guessing, “maybe not.” And that can be a problem for well-informed contractors trying to explain, in clear detail, the quality built into the GAF shingles they’re about to recommend.
But at GAF, we believe every problem has a solution. So a bunch of creative pros from the GAF engineering, marketing, and sales teams put their heads together and, inspired by the GAF shingle durability story, made a bit of an action movie.
“Engineered to Endure” was filmed on location at the famous Wall of Wind at the Florida International University in Miami. For two fun and thrilling minutes, we watch the “star” of the film (You can call her “House”) take on hurricane-force winds, torrents of water, and finally, jets of flaming embers. But (spoiler alert) our hero stands up to it all! See the film here.
The team behind “Engineered to Endure” hopes contractors will share the demonstration video with their customers, while encouraging them to imagine what GAF Advanced Protection® Shingle technology can mean for their homes.
No blockbuster is really complete without a few words from the Legal Department:
This demonstration is performed under controlled conditions. It is not intended to create any warranties about product performance. The GAF Shingle and Accessory Limited Warranty covers your Timberline® Shingles against manufacturing defects that adversely affect their performance. Damages resulting from acts of nature, such as fire and winds (including gusts) over 110 mph for shingles installed using standard installation methods or 130 mph for shingles installed using special installation methods are not covered. See warranty for coverage and restrictions.
