This safety app aims to revolutionize job site safety

WSRCA This safety app aims to revolutionize job site safety
November 10, 2024 at 6:00 p.m.

By Jesse Sanchez.

An all-in-one tool designed to streamline safety and documentation on roofing job sites.

In this episode of Roofing Road Trips®, host Megan Ellsworth sat down with Stephen Zasadil, the mind behind the Western States Roofing Contractors Association’s (WSRCA) Safety App. Stephen, a seasoned OSHA consultant, shared insights into how this app promises to tackle key safety challenges on construction sites, particularly in roofing. Designed for WSRCA members, the app addresses daily safety protocols, documentation and compliance requirements, making safety procedures accessible and efficient for all contractors.

The app’s impact is clear when Stephen recounts a close call that could have been prevented with thorough inspections. In one instance, a fire ignited on a reach lift due to a leak that went unnoticed and an expired fire extinguisher. “Had they had an app like this, they could have gone through, done the inspection and seen, ‘Oh, you know what? There’s a leak,’” Stephen explained. This real-life example represents the app’s value, as it allows crews to document inspections, identify potential hazards and avoid dangerous oversights, all in real-time.

Through features like automated emergency action plans and GPS location services, the app ensures that safety information is just a tap away. "So you enter in the address of where the work that you're doing. Then you can go through and say, "Okay, well, yes, I have my safety documentation. I've got my map to the nearest hospital. My fall protection stuff is in good condition.", Stephen said. The app also includes over 200 customizable toolbox talks, which help teams stay updated on essential safety protocols during downtime or in adverse weather.

One of the standout features is the app’s cross-platform compatibility, available on iOS, Android and Windows devices, making it accessible across various devices that contractors might use. “Western States Roofing Contractors Association, they put a lot of time and effort into it … safety is the most important thing,” Stephen expressed, stressing the app’s role in fostering a safer work environment.
