Sika has added a coating to their repertoire of products that is a game-changer for gravel roofs. Made with 100% recycled rubber mixed with a specialized coating, this innovative product, Sikalastic® 720, is an excellent way to extend the life of gravel roofs and is also an environmentally friendly choice.
The core of this coating is 100% recycled rubber, giving new life to materials that would otherwise end up in landfills. By integrating this recycled rubber with Sikalastic 720, the product is built with the durability and performance of traditional gravel roofs, making them more resilient to the elements and significantly extending their lifespan. This means fewer roof replacements over time!
One of the standout features of this coating is its low VOC (Volatile Organic Compounds) content. VOCs are often found in many building materials and can contribute to indoor air pollution. This aligns perfectly with the increasing demand for green building materials that prioritize environmental sustainability.
And the application couldn’t be easier. Simply mix Sikalastic 720 Part A and Part B with a mechanical mixer and add in the crumb rubber filler and you’re ready to apply! It is recommended that the mixed material is immediately poured in a ribbon pattern onto the roof that’s already been prepped and primed. Then let the rubber application cure for at least three to four hours so it can become fully set.
This recycled rubber resurfacing system is a win-win for everyone involved. It eliminates the need to tear off the roof and doesn’t disrupt the building inhabitants or require the business to shut down during application. Sikalastic 720 offers contractors and building owners a sustainable solution that saves time and reduces environmental impact.
