The Significance of Women-led Organizations in the Roofing Industry

USG Significance of Women-Led Organizations
July 17, 2023 at 6:00 p.m.

By Anna Lockhart.

Joining organizations specific to your trade and industry can provide great networking and education opportunities.

Heidi J. Ellsworth talked with Danielle Pack from USG and Dawn Holsinger from the Delta Rep Group about women in roofing and women in construction. They discussed the wonderful role organizations such as National Women in Roofing (NWiR) play and how it provides a support system where women in the industry can come together to uplift one another by sharing knowledge.

NWiR is an organization that is focused on the education and advancement of women roofing professionals. This group has done tremendous work uniting women across the country in their pursuit of connecting with like individuals who can share valuable knowledge and insight into their field.

Danielle shared her thoughts on the impact of participating in National Women in Roofing Day with the NWiR. “National Women in Roofing Day is one of the most moving things you can go to. It's an amazing day, and there's so much learning that goes on, and I just love it... it's networking, it's getting involved. It was happening organically, and it was amazing. From there, I was like, ‘I have to find out how to get more involved with this group.’ So then, I started getting involved in my local council, and then I got on the board, and now, I'm currently the co-chair with an amazing individual.”

Dawn agrees with how powerful the day is adding, “I wouldn't miss it for the world. It is the best day of the year. It's so amazing.”

Partaking in such an organization can be incredibly valuable and career-changing for many. Having a system of people who are there to guide and support you can greatly impact your career and confidence. Pack went on to say this about her internal reflection on how she has benefitted from these relationships, “I'm valued. I'm valued in the position that I am in. I'm supported in the position that I am in. I am accepted in the position that I am in, right? I'm all those things to the organization I'm with or the company that I'm with.”

A good takeaway is to remember that looking everywhere, whether in your career or from within an organization, educational opportunities to learn and grow as a professional are abundant.

Dawn had a bit of good advice, “Asking questions doesn't show weakness.  It shows strength.”
