According to a March 30, 2023 USA TODAY article, even before Friday's outbreak, there had been more than 300 tornadoes so far, and according to Storm Prediction Center data, it was the third-most-active start to a year on record in the U.S.
“We should be at about 200 tornadoes for today's date,” Victor Gensini, associate professor at Northern Illinois University, told USA TODAY on March 30. “So we're running about 100 tornadoes above average, and we have been the entire year."
Roofing contractors are at the forefront of working with home and building owners to protect damaged structures after the storm when possible. With the widespread devastation there is not time to get every building reroofed rapidly but they can be protected in the short term with the right protective roofing products.
StormGear™ Roof Shield by TopShield® is a state-of-the-art product for both residential and commercial properties delivering a reliable temporary roof covering. Roof Shield offers peace of mind providing temporary protection and is backed with a one-year, leak-free warranty.
The Roof Shield product is heat-shrunk to float slightly above the roof surface preventing mold. It is vented, easily inspected and easily removed for when the contractor can schedule repairs or reroof. The key for owners is that it ensures that no further damage from future roof leaks will occur, protecting valuables until a permanent roof can be installed.
RoofShield is a strong, secure temporary roof that preserves the post-loss condition of the roof while providing a fully functional, fully vented and leak-free solution for one full year. It is fire resistant with a 12-mil fire resistant membrane that is ASTM E84 Class A certified with zero flame spread and is also slip resistant with 25% more slip-resistance and more elastic than any similar membrane in the market. The tear resistance is tested to be more resistant than any other 12-mil shrink membrane and provides 24-month UV rating with semi-transparent properties.
Contractors do need to be trained in order to professionally install Roof Shield. View installation videos of RoofShield here.
