In an episode of Roofing Road Trips, Heidi visits with Darci Kunard of Franklin International/Titebond to discuss their metal roofing sealants as well as how much metal roofing has grown in the industry.
Darci, senior product manager for DuraMaster and sales and business development with Titebond and Franklin International, shares more on WeatherMaster ™ Metal Roof Sealant. She notes that metal is becoming increasingly important in the roofing industry. “I think there's a huge growth towards metal,” says Darci. “It just seems like the industry has really taken off.”
As more homeowners demand stronger and more sustainable roofing options, the performance of sealants for metal roofs has become a huge aspect for a contractor’s success. She talks about how Titebond® WeatherMaster Metal Roof Sealant success lies in how it has been formulated to outperform all other sealant technologies, including VOC solvent, silicones, tripolymers and urethanes.
“The whole point about that is really bonding to metal because we know metal can be very difficult to stick to,” says Darci. “The adhesion on it is extremely important because metal does expand and contract and those metal roofs move a lot. So, you need a great sealant that can really hold on. Our metal roof sealant is capable of sticking to Kynar® or any other type of coated metals.”
She highlights the importance of a good metal sealant, “On a metal roof, you've got to install the rivets and then you have to steal those up really well and make sure that it's watertight,” says Darci. “It's key to seal those things up especially because metal is one of those materials that's difficult to work with.”
She explains that WeatherMaster, as an advanced polymer sealant, makes for an excellent all-weather product that can actually stick to metals. As opposed to water-based sealants, this product can be installed in freezing temperatures, as well as in rainy or wet conditions and can even be applied in standing water. “You can use that down to zero degrees, freezing temperatures, rain, standing water, you name it, it's going to work,” says Darci.
Further, the sealant comes with a Miami Dade certification and comes in over 100 colors and can be matched to any type of metal. Darci concludes the podcast by stating why it is so important to have high-performing products. “If you can reassure your homeowner that you are using top-rated products like WeatherMaster and your installers know what they're doing, it brings so much peace of mind for that homeowner.”
