His journey began with his father, who established C&R Remodeling in Salem, Oregon, in 1961. Doug assumed leadership of the family business in 1989, gaining extensive experience that ultimately inspired him to launch Skylift in 2010. He explained, “In my remodeling business I was reluctant to build patio covers because I knew clients would not be happy in the long run. But doing business in rainy Oregon spawns a lot of requests for a protected outdoor entertaining area.”

Some of the issues that come with traditional patio covers that made Doug hesitate include tendency to leaking debris accumulation and eventual dry rot development.
