Heidi J. Ellsworth welcomes DuPont™ Tedlar®’s Corynn Sheridan and Metal Alliance’s Tara Faulkner to the MetalCoffeeShop soundstage LIVE! at METALCON!
Any roofer will tell you that a dream beach house might come with a few roofing nightmares due to the degradation of roofing materials from the environment. The same sea breeze that draws residents to the beach is corrosive to a roof. However, the beach can stay a paradise with new Tedlar® PVF film.
Tedlar® PVF film is laminated to a metal coil that offers superior performance and is extremely chemically resistant and flexible. It is no wonder why Tedlar® is often chosen for projects requiring premium protection of the metal in corrosive environments, including within 1,500 feet of the ocean.
“We're working really closely with Metal Alliance to bring Tedlar® film as a solution for the metal roofing industry where it takes the place of a really high-quality coating with some of the longest warranties and lowest maintenance on the market,” says Corynn.
RPI Roofingrecently installed a metal roof for a condominium complex in Hilton Head that was right on the beach. The company chose aluminum laminated with Tedlar® PVF film sold by Metal Alliance for its long warranty and ability to withstand salt spray and seawater.
“We're really proud of this project. This is a really a special project that we did, and it's been highlighted in the latest issue of Roofing Magazine. This project is located right on the ocean, so it's right on the coast,” says Tara. “We did choose the Tedlar® finish for this project because of the durability, the types of things that it offers for the roofer.”
Tedlar® is a dirt shedding product, which makes it incredibly low maintenance. Rather than having someone go up and fresh wash the roof every year and maintain the documentation throughout the life of the finish warranty as is the case with PVDF finishes, the only maintenance Tedlar® film needs is occasional observation of the product.
“Nothing sticks to it — dirt, mold and mildew. None of that appears on Tedlar,® especially in these human-moist environments like Hilton Head where this hotel was. So it was specified for that reason, the low maintenance, but also for the extreme durability,” says Corynn. “It does not fade over time. It doesn't crack. It doesn't chalk. So it's super, super durable. So we were really excited to get specified into this big project right by the coastline and get some more exposure for the product and for the companies working on it.”
