Most buildings suffer serious damage after a disastrous storm strikes. In these instances, attention and recovery efforts can be spread thin as the amount of damage can succeed the amount of people able to work on repairs.
In September of 2017 when Hurricane Irma struck Florida, for instance, thousands of metal, tile, flat and shingled roofs needed immediate repairs. However, because of the sheer amount of damage, different solutions had to be thought of until permanent repairs could be conducted.
Temporary roofing membranes may last up to six months, but in most cases they only last two or three months due to the general climate of the area which is often more extreme and therefore prone to natural disasters.
Experienced roofing contractors often turn to FiberTite® Blue Roof™, a temporary membrane designed to protect a variety of roofs, including low or steep slopes and flat commercial and industrial roofs. FiberTite® Blue Roof™ is a temporary solution for damaged roofs until permanent repairs can be made. It can also be used as a temporary roof for tear-off areas or new construction until the final roof assembly can be installed.
FiberTite® Blue Roof™ is exceptionally strong, long-lasting and can provide UV resistance for up to a year or more. It shines over other temporary membrane options and is abrasion, tear and puncture resistant.
FiberTite® Blue Roof™ is made of reinforced thermoplastic (rolls 100” wide x 100’ long) and can be made watertight by conventional commercial hot-air weld seaming equipment. Alternate temporary seaming and sealing methods may include the use of FiberTite FTR-101 General Purpose Sealant, waterproofing caulk sealants, or adhesive tapes including Duct-Tape.
It is vital to prepare your business for the inevitable tropical weather that hits coastal areas during hurricane season. Weathering storms is especially important for businesses and preparation is crucial to avoid costly and time-consuming repairs. By taking a few simple steps businesses can protect property as well as the company’s ability to return to normalcy in quick time.
It’s important to remember the value of a roof. Without a sound roof, everything in a building is exposed and at risk of destruction. That exposure could last longer than expected and quickly turn into economic devastation. Hurricane Irma slammed Florida in 2017 and roofs were still damaged almost a year later due to contractors not being able to keep up with the volume of the work.
Conventional temporary fixes are not adequate, as Hurricane Irma proved. Most temporary roofing membranes are designed to last only a few months, which simply isn’t long enough. FiberTite® Blue Roof™, which works like conventional material and can last more than a year, is the better option in times of devastation and uncertainty.
