Technology is ever changing. I remember my teachers in school wanting all our math problems to be written out, not just giving the answer. We always complained because the pocket calculator had just hit the market and we all had one. “Why can’t we just give the answer using our calculators?” The teacher said you won’t always have a calculator with you. Sounds absurd now, doesn’t it? We all have them in our pockets now on our phone! My point is, if you think in the past regarding technology and how you can use it, in the future you will be left behind.
We look for technology to help us use our time more efficiently. We can’t make more time, but we can be smarter about how we use it. We use EagleView and QuickMeasure so we don’t have to hand measure each house - a huge time saver. We also use JobNimbus to track our jobs and manage our customer database. We don’t have to use paper files to track jobs anymore, saving not only time but also space since we no longer need filing cabinets.
There is a learning curve when introducing new technologies into your system and it will slow you down at first. Do your homework before you make the leap. If it is the right system for your company, don’t put it in the corner because it is more difficult than you anticipated. Get the training from your vendor and keep your people committed to the system. Embrace the future and enjoy that calculator in your pocket!
