By ASC Building Products.

Use this simple cleaning tip to easily clean and maintain the quality of your home or building’s metal roof this fall!

Editor’s note: RCS always recommends that home and building owners hire a professional, but here are some simple tips you can share with your customers to help them keep up with their home or building’s roof maintenance.

Metal roofs are a fantastic investment for any residential or commercial building and can last for a lifetime with proper care and maintenance. The metal roofing experts at ASC Building Products, sister company to AEP Span, are here to share their number-one tip for making sure your metal roof stays clean and unblemished during the colder months of the year.

Although metal roofing is designed to last, you can help ensure its longevity with proper and simple maintenance. Fall debris trapped on roofs and in gutters, such as leaves, sticks and dirt, in conjunction with the higher moisture levels of winter, can contribute to the premature aging of roof surfaces through permanent discoloration or premature corrosion.

Key areas to check and clean include valleys, roof transitions and behind chimneys. Additional Tips for roof or siding maintenance are generally identified in the warranty provided by your metal roofing or siding product manufacturer.

For metal roofing, a simple rinse with a hose using tap water is sufficient; however, a 1/3 cup of Tide® detergent dissolved in one gallon of water, followed by a clear rinse can be used for more stubborn roof grime – but don’t use abrasives or chemical cleaners as it can damage the metal!
