It’s been said many times that once someone gets into the roofing industry, they never get out. There sure is something about it that keeps people coming back, even when they try to leave. So is the case with many of the team members from Acme Cone, a leading manufacturer of prefabricated flashings. Let’s meet two of them.
Tim Luck is the CFO at Acme Cone and is also in charge of operations. He’s been with the company for two years but has spent many more in the industry. After spending many years working for IB Roof Systems in Texas, he tried to leave the industry because he wanted to move back to his hometown of Eugene, Oregon.
He wasn’t looking for a job in roofing, he was just looking for any job that would allow him to relocate. “I began networking with all of my contacts in Oregon and connected with Curt Large who was an old friend and owner of Evergreen Roofing as well as the founder of Acme Cone,” said Luck. The two decided that Luck might be able to help Acme Cone on a half-time consulting basis – a good plan since he had already secured another part-time consulting job in Eugene.
“Everything was looking good until the second part-time job fell through,” explained Luck. “I had a tough decision to make. Should I pack up and move across the country for just a part-time consulting job?”
He took a leap of faith and decided to move. Within a week, Large offered him a full-time role to take over operations. “We actually wear a lot of hats here at Acme,” stated Luck. “When I first joined, I was doing everything from operations to sales and marketing to finance.” Luck said he is excited for the future of the company because they just hired their first employee, Logan Silver, who is 100 percent dedicated to business development and he expects it to take the company to the next level.
Roofing isn’t new to Logan Silver either. He’s leaving Boston to return to his roofing roots in Oregon. Silver’s story starts when he was a teenager. His first summer job was as the yard boy for Evergreen Roofing, the roofing business owned by Acme Cone founder Curt Large.
“Our families are very close and my first real job ever was as the yard boy at Evergreen,” explained Silver. “I spent the days picking up screws, cleaning out trucks, emptying ashtrays and they would send me out to find things that probably didn’t even exist,” he said with a laugh.
When Silver began his job as the yard boy ten years ago, Acme Cone was just being started. After graduating from high school, Silver headed east on a football scholarship where he played for College of the Holy Cross in Massachusetts. After college, he settled into Boston and worked as a software salesperson for a few years, but the lure of the roofing industry wasn’t going away.
Now Silver is back to his roots as the Business Development Manager for Acme Cone where he will focus on generating new business and engaging with existing customers to grow their business. “Since I was around when it first started, I’m excited to be coming back into it on this side to help with the continued growth and success of the business,” said Silver.
