Take a Virtual Tour of Sashco

Sashco Take a Virtual Tour
September 2, 2020 at 10:00 a.m.

By Colin Sheehan, RCS Reporter.

Learn about the history of Sashco (including a flying sales team).

Sashco’s virtual show tells us the story of Sashco’s beginnings in 1936 to the products it makes today. Sashco’s Customer Service Supervisor, Melani Torrez, welcomes us into the world of Sashco and tells us about Don Burch, Sashco’s founder.

“Armed only with an English degree, [Burch] decided to start the steel sash window company. He was so annoyed by the putty that would separate in the pails that he actually got side tracked and ended up coming up with a way to homogenize window putty. Fast forward a whole bunch of years and we’ve got Sashco sealants,” said Melani.

Don Burch was a pilot in the air force and also trained pilots during World War II. Alongside the WWII pilots, he trained everyone on his sales team to be pilots too. So, Sashco had a flying sales team that delivered products to the customers door by plane.

The company continues its intrigue with its peer-nominated Sashco Prowler Award. Every year, one employee is awarded not with a photo on the wall nor a membership to a jelly-of-the-month club. Rather, this lucky person gets to drive the company DeLorean for a full year.

Their last tribute to Don Burch is located in the Sashco Pub. There is a mural painted on the wall depicting Don and his wife Alice. Tragically, Don passed in 1954 and left behind a pregnant Alice and a toddler son. The company struggled without Don and Alice had to take over the business while raising two kids. Eventually, Alice was able to pass the company to her son, Les Burch, when he came of age.

The video is then passed to Jose Vega, the Main Formulator at Sashco where they formulate their caulks and other products. The video is shot in the warehouse where workers are busy making the product under a large superman mural.

Afterwards, a few of Sashco’s products are highlighted in the video, including MOR-FLEXX® and THROUGH THE ROOF!®

“MOR-FLEXX is a textured water-based sealant that comes in beige and grey. Its texture is designed to mirror the look of concrete but remain pliable so that it can stretch with the joint instead of tearing away from the substrate,” said Sabrina, a Sashco employee who provides demonstrations of the products in the video.

THROUGH THE ROOF! Roof sealant remains clear for the life of the sealant. Like MOR-FLEXX, THROUGH THE ROOF!  can handle the changing movements of an aging roof and the constant pressure of wind gusts and harsh rains. It’s ultra-elastic and permanently stops roof and gutter leaks.
