The Home Builders Association of Billings, Montana, partners with the Billings School District’s Career Center each year to build a house. High school students are offered the opportunity for hands-on experience while also giving back to their community. Once the house is finished, it is sold to help fund the event each year. This partnership has continued strong for the past 48 years, and 2023 was no different.
With over 200 students each year directly involved with the student build home project, all aspects of construction are led by Billings Home Builders Association members and Career Center instructors. The Home Builders Association funds 100% of the project each year, with the profits from the sale of each home being reinvested into the project.
Recently, the Home Builders Association (HBA) of Billings created a charitable arm of their organization, called HBA Building Visions. The mission of HBA Building Visions’ is to inject talent into the trades workforce through scholarships, career start-up financial aid, trades education, training and career placement through the Tools for Trades program. HBA of Billings believes that strengthening the workforce not only provides successful career pathways for students, but also helps afford everyone the American dream of home ownership.
Students graduating from this program are eligible to apply for scholarships toward continuing education or financial aid to assist with the cost of start-up tools for graduating students going directly into a trade.
