2024 seems to have been the year of acquisitions in the roofing industry. From Aspen Pumps Group’s acquisition of Malco Tools, Inc. and Durable Slate Company’s expansion into the UK Market with acquisition of Bain & Irvine to the industry shifting acquisition of SRS Distribution by Home Depot Pro, a lot has been happening! These acquisitions can be complicated and somewhat daunting processes, especially for smaller companies navigating it alone. That’s where the Maven Group comes in!
In this episode of Roofing Road Trips®, Karen Edwards sits down with Dominik Sachsenheimer and Carson Bombara of Maven Group to talk about how they help contractors navigate the mergers and acquisitions processes! Dominik explained that the first step is figuring out your own internal processes. He shared, “A lot of things that the contractor does are second nature to him, but an outsider usually asks for a more generic view in terms of what percentage of your revenue comes really from commercial companies, customers? What percentage of your revenue comes from residential? How do you go about your sales activities? All of those things.” At Maven Group they will work with their clients for two months to identify and answer all of these different questions to make sure when it comes time to sell their business there are as few miscommunications and misunderstandings as possible.
Carson shared a bit more about the friction that can occur when this type of planning is not done beforehand, saying, “I think oftentimes that friction or that conflict comes from a seller and a buyer whose intentions were really never aligned, who didn't really think about the business the same way.” And even if a merger or acquisition is far into the distance for you and your company, Maven Group can still help your prepare. Dominik explained, “We're more than happy to work with someone for a year, two years by just doing a consultation maybe once a quarter, every six months and really help them along the way until the right time comes. So there's really no wrong time. I mean, quite frankly, we get calls every once in a while from people who just started the business and say, ‘Hey, I want to run this for 15 years. I want to make whatever, $20 million in 15 years. What do I have to do?’”
