Statement Regarding 2020 IIBEC International Convention & Trade Show

IIBEC New Manual of Practice
March 11, 2020 at 6:00 p.m.

The International Institute of Building Enclosure Consultants (IIBEC) is taking all developments concerning the Coronavirus (COVID-19) very seriously and will continue to closely monitor the situation.

Your health and welfare are of utmost importance to us. We plan to proceed with the 2020 International Convention and Trade Show, March 26-31 in Houston, Texas. We are continuing to see attendance levels and event registrations tracking ahead of previous years, and we are selling the last few remaining trade show booths this week.

As we all prepare for travel, IIBEC is taking the following actions:

  • We are in daily contact with our host hotels and with the Houston Convention and Visitors Bureau to ensure the safety of our attendees while in Houston.
  • We have been in contact with officials from the City of Houston who highlighted the that the city is “open for business” and currently hosting the Houston Rodeo and Livestock show, the world’s largest, while preparing to host the NCAA men’s basketball Sweet 16, and the IIBEC Annual Convention and Trade Show.
  • We continue to monitor announcements and updates from the World Health Organization (WHO), the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and the City of Houston Health Department, and we will make decisions taking their recommendations into account.

While at IIBEC 2020, we recommend attendees take the following precautions:

  • Acknowledge each other with a head nod rather than a handshake.
  • Liberally use the more than 55 hand-sanitizing stations located throughout the George R. Brown Convention Center, as well as hand-sanitizing stations readily available at the Marriott Marquis Houston.
  • Wash your hands frequently with soap and water for at least 30 seconds.
  • If you show symptoms of illness while onsite, visit our first aid station directly outside of Hall C, at the convention center. Should you require medical attention while in your hotel guestroom, contact the front desk.

This remains a fluid and developing situation, and we will continue to monitor the situation and make adjustments as appropriate.

We look forward to seeing you in Houston at the end of the month!

Sincerely,

Bob Card
President

CEO/EVP
