Sika at Work: RoofCoat Rehabilitates Municipality Building Roof

In the summer of 2018, a major municipality just east of San Francisco was in the midst of reviewing the condition of the roofs on a number of structures throughout the city when they discovered they would need to either replace or rehabilitate the roofs. They eventually decided to rehabilitate these roofs via application of a high-performance roof coating system verses a complete replacement, saving both time and expense.  

With the goal of selecting a cost-effective re-coat that can be applied over the existing asphaltic roofs, the team selected the Sikalastic®-500 silicone-based roof coating. This product was not only durable and waterproof, but also exceptionally UV resilient and reflective, and would deliver additional energy efficiency benefits to the building.  

Beginning in the fall of 2019, installation began on the clubhouse roof of the local golf course, a high-valued property. Because the product is so easy to install, with no mixing or stirring, the installation was a success. Two more installations were added to the scope, with work on warehouse structures in the city’s maintenance yard being completed in November of 2019.
