Shielding the shoreline

Dupont Shielding the shoreline
October 1, 2024 at 3:00 a.m.

By Emma Peterson.

In this case study, DuPont™ Tedlar® brings beauty and resilience to Florida homes.

The Floridian coast can be a challenging place to build along. From the threat of unique storm events to run-of-the-mill rainstorms and climate considerations, contractors need to make sure they are using the right materials to make sure the home they’re building can withstand the test of nature. The Metal Construction Association (MCA) took a look at a case study where contractors were able to successfully do this by using DuPont™ Tedlar® surface protection film on two homes. The first was a home in Jupiter, Florida, along the inner coastal waterway of the state. It features Dark Bronze Tedlar®. Also, along the inner coastal waterway, but in Hobe Sound, Florida, the second home features Dove Grey Tedlar®.

Overall, DuPont™ Tedlar® is a great option for contractors. With over 60 years of proven performance, these films have been used on everything from aerospace to signage. Appliable both indoors and outdoors, Tedlar® is a resilient option. It does not fade due to UV exposure, it is highly flexible and does not crack or corrode easily, reduces the growth of mold and is impervious to harsh chemicals and pollutants. In addition to the functional benefits of Tedlar®, it provides homeowners with a wide range of colors and warranties, allowing them to make their home their own.

In this case study, Tedlar® was chosen for many of these reasons. Its chemical and corrosion-resistant nature made it perfect for installation in the coastal climate of these properties. The combination of strong structural soundness with aesthetic appearance made it a great option for surviving the unique Floridia climate. The cherry on top is that its warranty does not include a freshwater rinse requirement, making it an incredible low-maintenance choice. Overall, MCA found that the homeowners in this case study can rest easy knowing their investments are safe and sound thanks to DuPont™ Tedlar® films.
