Shaping the future of roofing through education

Everroof Shaping the future of roofing through education
August 19, 2024 at 12:00 a.m.

By Evelyn Witterholt.

Learn more about the new roofing classes at Clemson University designed to help you build the foundation for your roofing education.

Whether you are just getting into construction, or you have been here for years, education is an important component of your career in the roofing industry. That’s why Clemson University has partnered with The Roofing Alliance, the foundation of the National Roofing Contractors Association (NRCA), to offer three roofing classes. These classes are available to Clemson University students and any roofing professional looking to receive continuing education credits.

In an episode of our Roofing Road Trips® podcast series, we spoke with Todd Farr, national sales manager for EVEROOF, about these new roofing courses. The three courses Clemson University offers are: Roofing Fundamentals, Roofing Management and Roofing Business Principles and Leadership. Todd told us that the Roofing Fundamentals course walks you through the different types of roof systems and how to properly interpret blueprints.

“You need to know how to go through those blueprints. And they don't always point out where the roofing section is and what you need to know. They just hand you the big stack of blueprints,” Todd said. “So, in this course, learning where to go, how to read them, it's time efficiency. That is gold. I can't tell you how valuable that is.”

Each course costs $895, but the overall value of the knowledge they provide far exceeds the cost. The classes are online and once you start, you have 60 days to complete the course at your own pace. When you take the final exam, you get two tries to pass it and once you do, you’ll get a certificate.

“The fact that they're giving you that certification, that's gold as well. You can put that in your brag book as you go to see clients," Todd said. “The whole thing is valuable. I would definitely take it seriously because those that do will find themselves making more money.”
