The Cool Roof Rating Council (CRRC) Board elections are underway! With ballots being distributed to active CRRC members via email on April 7, 2025, online voting is open from now until June 6. Members who do not vote online will have a final opportunity to cast ballots in-person at the annual meeting on June 11, 2025, in New Orleans, Louisiana. This election presents an opportunity for CRRC members to help shape the future of cool roofing by selecting leaders who will guide the organization’s initiatives in pursuit of its mission. Below is a summary of each candidate’s background and vision for the CRRC Board:
With a career in roofing materials since the 1980s, Bill Hendricks has played a key role in product development, including fire-retardant cedar shakes and shingles. He has been a long-time CRRC liaison for Fire Smart Roofing and brings a steep-slope roofing perspective to the board.
Maureen Kavanagh is a laboratory director at 3M’s Industrial Mineral Products Division, with a strong background in sustainability and industry leadership. She has served on advisory boards for the Construction Revolution Summit and the Center for Sustainable Polymers. With over five years in the roofing industry, she aims to advance credible methods and education within CRRC.
With over 35 years in the roofing industry, Jim Kirby is an architect at Siplast and a past CRRC Board member (2015–2024). He has significant experience with trade associations and roofing systems, emphasizing the importance of reflective roofing for energy efficiency and environmental benefits. Jim seeks to bring his expertise and leadership experience back to the CRRC Board.
Currently the director of operations at the Cedar Shake and Shingle Bureau, Nav Koonar has a background in engineering and business, with over 16 years in manufacturing. He is committed to advancing sustainable building solutions through cool roofing technologies and aims to contribute his expertise in certifications and environmental efficiency to CRRC’s mission.
Walter McIntosh has worked in the roofing industry for over 30 years, beginning with Firestone Building Products in 1993. Currently with Elevate, he specializes in research, development and compliance with industry standards. As a CRRC Technical Committee member, he seeks to represent the industry and ensure products align with evolving standards.
A codes manager at Johns Manville Corporation, Tim McQuillen has served on the CRRC Board for the past three years. He has been involved with CRRC since 2001, working extensively in product testing, certification and industry standards. His knowledge of CRRC processes makes him a valuable representative for manufacturers and product compliance.
As a senior climate solutions analyst at Climate Resolve, Selena Melgoza has led multiple cool surface projects and secured over $24 million in funding to combat extreme heat. She has a background in environmental policy and public engagement, positioning her to advance CRRC’s mission with a focus on data-driven, community-centered cooling solutions.
Founder and CEO of ACE Laboratories, Erick Sharp has spent the past decade establishing ACE as a leading testing and development facility for the roofing and polymer industries. His leadership has earned accolades, including being named “Executive of the Year” by Rubber News in 2024. Erick’s passion for material science innovation aligns with CRRC’s expansion into new applications and technologies.
A third-generation roofing professional, Steven Wadding has worked in the industry since 1992 and currently holds a senior management position at Polyglass. He actively participates in CRRC initiatives, including the Education Committee and the Pavement Ratings Steering Committee. His experience in technical, compliance and sustainability areas make him a strong candidate.
