At Go Roof Tune Up, Inc. we made a strategic business decision 10 years ago to get away from new construction and not try to do reroofing, but to focus on what we saw as an underserved segment for the market: maintenance. Many before us saw the value of service and maintenance work for commercial roofs, but we did not see anyone working to fill the need in the residential market.
We researched the concept by going door to door in many neighborhoods in our market area that we thought we could service. We offered homeowners a gift to listen to what we wanted to offer, and we learned a lot.
Some of what we heard confirmed what we already know, but much of what we heard was educational and really helped us develop a service and maintenance program for individual homeowners that has been very successful and well received. We provide a complete inspection of the roofing system and give a written report and recommendation to the homeowner. We are then able to address some of the common problem areas on the roof such as vents and jacks, skylights, chimneys and ridge vents. Homeowners are happy that they don’t have to put out the expense for a new roof and that they can enjoy more life out of their existing roof.
If you are interested in doing service and maintenance, talk to people that do it and talk to your prospective customers. Learn what works and figure out a way to improve it. Then get to work. It’s not easy but it’s rewarding and helps develop a business with repeat customers.
