Since purchasing his home in 2019, Christopher Preveziotis had been experiencing trouble with his roof. This spring the national nonprofit Vettes for Vets stepped in to help him with his roofing struggles. A team of roofers got together to fix the Veteran's roof for free.
Christopher was a U.S. Air Force veteran who retired in 2017. He spent 20 years in service. Initially, he enlisted from 1990 to 1994, then returned in 2001. From there he stayed for 16 years. During his time in the Air Force, Christopher served as an E6 technical sergeant. He focused primarily on healthcare administration and now he is a disabled veteran who cannot work. After the work was done to his house, Christopher shared with the Observer, “I feel pretty good, I’m very grateful.”
The house Christopher was living in had been purchased in 2019, but it had been several years since the roof was last replaced. Over time, the many vicious storms in Palm Coast Florida had damaged the roof. It began to leak on one side whenever rain fell.
Vettes for Vets, the nonprofit, organized a major remodel of the roof with a series of other companies donating their efforts. Suncoast Roofing Supply provided all the roofing materials. R&K Certified Roofing of Florida contributed a team of roofers to help install new shingles. There are four members of the Reed family that co-own R&K Roofing. Half of those members are also current veterans and felt a wave of empathy for Christopher and his roof. Don Reed, co-owner and Navy veteran said “We have so many veterans in desperate situations, and they're being marginalized. So, we have to step up and do our part.”
Do you know of someone in the industry who is ‘doing good deeds’ in their community? Help us catch them at it. Send news and information to info@rooferscoffeeshop.com.
