S.T.A.R. Awards applications are currently available and will be accepted through April 10, 2017.
S.T.A.R.—Spotlight Trophy for the Advancement of Roofing is an awards program designed by the Florida Roofing and Sheet Metal Contractors Association (FRSA) to recognize members' unique and outstanding projects completed in the state of Florida.
A panel evaluates the entries for inclusion and outstanding performance in each category. FRSA's S.T.A.R. Awards and Officer Installation Dinner will feature a presentation profiling winning industry projects. A video explaining the awards can be viewed here.
The awards dinner, set for Friday, June 23, 2017 during the annual convention and expo, will be an opportunity to network with contractors, manufacturers, architects and exhibitors in a relaxed, business atmosphere.
S.T.A.R. Awards – Category definitions
- Low Slope – Modified Bitumen/Single-Ply (TPO, PVC, EPDM)/BUR-Tar & Gravel/Metal; Any variation of the above types of low-sloped roofing systems.
- Steep Slope - All shingle, tile, metal, slate, wood shake/shingle, or composite material applied as a roof system to a 2:12 or greater slope roof.
- Specialty Metal Fabrication and Installation - Flashing pieces, coping pieces, spire, duct work, gutter, crafted specialty metal, scuppers, any metal work that does not fall into the steep slope full metal roof system category that can be judged for craftsmanship, difficulty and effectiveness.
- Sustainable - Green/Vegetative/Energy Efficient, LEED, Solar/Photovoltaic, cool granule, reflective coating technology, micro turbine inclusive facilities, radiant barrier, highly insulated with CI system, insulation system inclusive of RB technology, almost any roof system that brings a substandard building up to the new energy code.
- Community Service Project/Charity Roof - Any non-profit roof installation that can be documented as a whole or partial donation (minimum 50% free materials and/or labor).
- Unique/Miscellaneous – Liquid Applied Systems/Waterproofing Coatings, reinforced liquid applied system, or any specialty covering that does not fall in to the other categories or a roof that is so highly unique that it deserves special consideration either due to material used or installation necessary to achieve a long term waterproof final system.
Criteria
- Contractor company must be a current FRSA member.
- Project or service must be within the state of Florida.
- Project must have been completed in the calendar year preceding the awards dinner. (Example: For 2017 S.T.A.R. Awards, project must have been completed in 2016.)
- To be eligible to win the award, a company representative must be present at the ceremony to receive the award.
- Judging criteria is inclusive of but not limited to: aesthetics, size, completion time, special circumstances, unique project design, complexity of project, workmanship, teamwork, testimonials, creative problem solving.
- Application must be completed in its entirety in order to be considered.
- Submission cutoff date is April 10, 2017
