Roofs from the Heart (RFTH) has completed the installation of a new roof for a deserving Dover, DE resident at no cost to the homeowner. The project utilized roofing materials donated by GAF, North America's largest roofing and waterproofing manufacturer, with additional support from Bank of America and installation services provided by G. Fedale Roofing and Siding.
GAF began providing roofing materials to RFTH in 2024, committing to supply shingles for four home replacements and has continued this commitment into 2025. Bank of America provided a grant of $5,000 toward this Dover home repair project, marking the second consecutive year that Bank of America has supported the Roofs from the Heart organization.
The recipient, a retired widow on a limited income, has lived under a roof last serviced more than 20 years ago. As a military spouse to a United States Air Force veteran, she faced significant challenges maintaining her home after her husband passed in 2018. Noticing discoloration and missing shingles, she reached out to State Senator Trey Pardee, who connected her with Roofs from the Heart.
Upon inspection, G. Fedale Roofing discovered extensive damage, requiring replacement of over 35 sheets of rotting plywood beneath the neglected shingles. The new roofing system will substantially reduce health risks associated with moisture intrusion, improve air quality and prevent pest infiltration.
Roofs from the Heart covered labor and installation costs, while G. Fedale Roofing and Siding provided contractor services at a discounted rate. The project demonstrates the impact of community organizations working together to address housing needs for elderly and limited-income residents.
“Roofs from the Heart provides safe housing for vulnerable Delawareans, including addressing critical home repairs needed to allow residents to age in place safely and with dignity,” said Chip Rossi, president, Bank of America Delaware. “This important work aligns with our support of basic needs and commitment to strengthen the communities we serve.”
Founded by G. Fedale Roofing and Siding, Roofs from the Heart received 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status in July 2023 and has since focused on helping underserved Delaware communities maintain safe housing. The organization's mission is to provide quality new roofs to those unable to maintain safe and secure shelter, with the goal of keeping families healthy and in their homes.
The project is part of GAF's social impact initiative, GAF Community Matters, which focuses on leveraging roofing expertise, resources and products to build resilient communities. GAF, Roofs from the Heart and G. Fedale Roofing and Siding plan to collaborate on several additional homes throughout 2025.
