Roofing Road Trips from the Roofing Contractors Association of Texas (RCAT) Expo

Roofing Road Trips After RCAT
November 10, 2019 at 2:00 p.m.

By Heidi J. Ellsworth, RCS Partner.

Golf, new laws and friends meet up at the 2019 RCAT Expo.

This year, RoofersCoffeeShop® was excited to attend the 2019 Roofing Contractors Association of Texas' Expo located at the Gaylord Texan Resort & Convention Center in Grapevine, TX.  It was a great show for Tim and I, meeting with the impressive roofing contractors of Texas.  There were cutting-edge educational sessions, a trade show featuring the latest roofing products and innovations plus fun networking events and a lot of news.

I was particularly impressed with the turnout and participation with both the golf tournament and the tradeshow.  It was a packed house at both events, bringing the contractors together to network and learn.  One of the ongoing conversations we kept hearing was about the recent law passed during the 86th Texas legislative session dealing with insurance deductibles that became law on September 1, 2019, HB2102 - Prohibition Against Waiving of Deductibles.

According to a recent news release from RCAT, “HB2102 fixes the problems of how deductibles must be paid. A contractor commits a violation of the new law if it pays, waives, absorbs, rebates, credits, or otherwise declines to charge or collect a deductible. Contracts must also contain a disclosure statement that insurance deductibles must be paid.  An insurance company can request “reasonable proof” that the deductible has been paid before making a replacement cost holdback payment. This important legislation will both protect Texas consumers from illegal fraud schemes and ensure that reputable contractors who collect deductibles are on a level playing field in competing for business."

It was inspiring to me to learn about the new law and the professionalism shown by RCAT members to advocate and help make this consumer protection law a reality.  Another impressive group in Texas is the Dallas council of National Women in Roofing.  They held a meeting after the tradeshow that I was able to attend with other NWIR executive team members including Jennifer Stone, current NWIR chairperson and RCS Influencer.  We spent time planning for the involvement of the NWIR Dallas Council in the upcoming NWIR Day 2020 that will be a part of the 2020 International Roofing Expo (IRE) in Dallas on February 2, 2020.  The ladies of the Dallas Council have been incredibly active with mentoring, education and networking.  They will be an integral part of the 2019 NWIR Day.

Texas is RoofersCoffeeShop’s number one state for traffic and we were thrilled to be part of their expo and we are very proud to be a part of that great community.

From the Road,

Heidi
